Kazakh Farmer Accused of Pocketing Hundreds of Millions in State Funds

A major fraud case has surfaced in Kazakhstan, where a farm manager is accused of misusing hundreds of millions of tenge from a government agricultural support scheme.

In the Abai region, the head of the “Ykybai” farming enterprise is suspected of embezzling 211 million tenge from the state agrobusiness program which provides preferential loans to farmers for livestock development, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The suspect secured two loans worth over 250 million tenge using falsified documents.

The funds were officially intended for purchasing cattle. However, investigators say:

No livestock was actually purchased

No collateral property was acquired

The money was spent on personal needs

Authorities estimate the total damage to the state at 211 million tenge. Officials confirmed that the suspect has fully reimbursed the losses during the investigation.

The individual is currently under a travel restriction agreement pending trial, while legal proceedings continue.
