Kazakh Fugitive’s 14-Year Escape Ends with Arrest in Estonia

A man wanted by authorities in Kazakhstan has been located and detained in Estonia after spending more than a decade in hiding.

Police from Pavlodar Region said the suspect had been on the run since a robbery committed in 2012. He reportedly lived under a false identity, using forged documents to avoid detection, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The arrest took place in Tallinn, where Kazakh police officers, working together with Interpol, were able to uncover his identity and detain him.

Since the beginning of the year, authorities in Pavlodar Region have identified and detained 47 individuals on international wanted lists. During a recent “Search” operation, 16 criminal suspects were located, including 9 foreign nationals wanted for crimes in CIS countries.

Officials said the issue of extraditing the suspect back to Kazakhstan is now being resolved in line with international agreements.

In a separate case, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan wanted by Russian authorities for theft was detained while attempting to cross the border.

Law enforcement emphasized that it is impossible to hide from justice, even outside the country, and sooner or later accountability for committed crimes will follow.
