Kazakh Leader Delivers Key Lecture at UN University in Tokyo

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has delivered a keynote lecture at the UN University in Tokyo as part of his official visit to Japan, outlining Kazakhstan’s vision for restoring strategic trust and building a fairer, more stable global order.

Speaking at the event titled “Restoring Strategic Trust in an Era of Turbulence: How Kazakhstan Envisions a Fairer and More Stable World,” Tokayev said it was a special honor to be the first head of state from Central Asia to address the prestigious institution, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

He described the invitation as a sign of growing international trust in Kazakhstan and recognition of the country’s consistent efforts to strengthen multilateralism and global stability.

The president also highlighted his personal connection with the United Nations, recalling his service as UN Deputy Secretary-General, Director-General of the UN Office in Geneva, and Secretary-General of the Conference on Disarmament. He congratulated the UN University on its 50th anniversary, praising its role in developing practical solutions to global challenges.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan’s foreign policy principles closely align with Japanese ethical values, where harmony, wisdom, and responsible leadership are seen as the foundations of true strength. Quoting Prince Shōtoku’s famous maxim that “harmony should be valued above all,” the president said the idea remains highly relevant today and is deeply reflected in Kazakhstan’s approach to governance and international relations.
