Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping contingent in the Golan Heights has conducted 470 operational missions over four months, including the detection and destruction of 350 explosive items, according to the country’s Ministry of Defense.

September 19 marked four months since Kazakhstan’s third national peacekeeping contingent began serving with the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights, The Caspian Post reports, citing the ministry.

Under the UN mission’s mandate, the peacekeeping company patrols its area of responsibility, monitors the situation and maintains constant readiness of its quick reaction forces.

When required, personnel are deployed to reinforce observation posts, evacuate UN staff and escort UN representatives and their cargo.

From June to September, the contingent’s explosive ordnance disposal team detected and destroyed 350 explosive items and 1,800 rounds of small-arms ammunition.

During the reporting period, the Kazakh peacekeeping contingent carried out 470 operational activities, including 379 patrols, the establishment of 49 temporary nighttime observation posts, 11 quick reaction force drills and 11 meetings with local community representatives.

The Kazakh peacekeeping contingent continues to carry out its mission under the UN mandate.
