Kazakh PM Demands Action Over Freight Train Backlog at Border

Kazakh Prime Minister, Olzhas Bektenov, has instructed authorities to hold company leaders responsible for the buildup of freight wagons at the Uzbek border.

Bektenov gave the order to Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of Kazakhstan Railways, during a government meeting, stressing the need for a swift and complete resolution, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

“Hold accountable those company managers responsible for this situation and report back to me,” Bektenov said.

Aldybergenov confirmed that Kazakh and Uzbek authorities are working together to address the issue. “An operational headquarters has been set up in Uzbekistan, and all authorized agencies are now working around the clock,” he added.

Earlier reports noted that thousands of grain-filled wagons had accumulated at the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border, causing a transport bottleneck. The delays were linked to the limited capacity of Uzbekistan’s Saryagash station.
