Kazakh Surgeons Save Child, Remove 20cm Tumor

Doctors in Kazakhstan's Shymkent city have carried out a complex and rare life-saving operation, successfully removing a massive 20-centimeter benign tumor from the abdomen of a four-year-old boy.

The child was rushed to the City Children’s Clinical Hospital with intense abdominal pain and persistent vomiting, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Comprehensive blood tests and ultrasound scans revealed an abdominal lymphangioma - a rare benign tumor that can grow rapidly and disrupt the work of vital internal organs if left untreated.

Surgeons managed to completely remove the tumor during the operation. Following the procedure, the young patient remained under close medical supervision to ensure a smooth recovery. Doctors report that his condition is stable, and he has been discharged home.

Local health officials highlighted that surgeries of this kind require exceptional surgical precision, highly qualified specialists, and advanced medical equipment.

Earlier, doctors in Kazakhstan’s Karaganda region also marked a milestone in pediatric care by performing the country’s first cochlear implant surgery on a child with severe hearing loss, underscoring continued progress in high-tech medical treatment.
