Kazakhstan has been ranked among the safest countries globally, recording zero terrorist incidents in the latest Global Terrorism Index 2026.
The report assigns Kazakhstan a score of zero, noting that the country has not experienced any recorded terrorist activity since 2007, placing it among a small group of nations with sustained long-term stability, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Worldwide, terrorism declined in 2025, with:
Deaths dropping by 28% to 5,582
The number of attacks decreasing by nearly 22%
Despite this improvement, risks remain concentrated. Nearly 70% of all terrorism-related deaths were recorded in just five countries, including Pakistan, Burkina Faso, Niger, Nigeria, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Experts highlight the Sahel region as the primary epicenter of terrorist activity, accounting for more than half of global terrorism-related deaths.
The report also notes that modern terrorism is increasingly concentrated near borders:
Over 41% of attacks occur within 50 km of an international border
64% take place within 100 km
Amid these global trends, Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, continue to demonstrate relatively strong security conditions, with minimal exposure to terrorism compared to high-risk regions.
