Roman Sklyar, First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, has held talks with Chevron Eurasia Unit Executive Director Derek Magness to discuss the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector.

The meeting was attended by Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov and KazMunayGas Chairman Askhat Khassenov, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Special attention was paid to the Tengiz oil field project, described as a flagship of Kazakhstan-U.S. energy cooperation. Magness noted that the project has delivered strong production results, highlighting Kazakhstan’s favorable investment climate, predictable regulation, and constructive engagement with government authorities as key factors enabling long-term investments.

The Kazakh side raised concerns over recent incidents at the Tengiz field that led to a temporary suspension of production. Chevron’s management outlined the steps taken to address the consequences and gradually restore output, assuring that additional measures will be implemented to prevent similar incidents and ensure the safe and reliable operation of facilities.

The sides also exchanged views on the development of geological exploration, with Chevron expressing interest in several exploration projects. The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation and readiness for continued constructive dialogue.

Earlier, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and ExxonMobil Vice President Peter Larden discussed energy cooperation and investment expansion in Astana.
