Kazakhstan, China Strengthen Security Cooperation Against Terrorism and Extremism

Kazakhstan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening security cooperation, with both countries pledging closer coordination in the fight against terrorism, extremism, separatism, and cross-border crime.

The agreement was highlighted during high-level security consultations held in Astana on June 1, bringing together senior officials from law enforcement and special agencies of both nations, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

The talks were co-chaired by Kazakhstan’s Security Council Secretary Gizat Nurdauletov and Chen Wenqing, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Secretary of its Political and Legal Affairs Commission.

Participants exchanged views on key international and regional security challenges, as well as cooperation within major multilateral platforms, including the United Nations, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and the Central Asia-China format.

A major focus of the discussions was the need to strengthen joint efforts against emerging security threats. Both sides emphasized the importance of coordinated action to combat international terrorism, extremism, separatism, and transnational criminal networks operating across borders.

Kazakhstan and China also agreed to further institutionalize their security dialogue by expanding cooperation between law enforcement, intelligence, and security agencies. Officials said enhanced collaboration would help address modern challenges while creating favorable conditions for sustainable trade, investment, and economic development.
