Kazakhstan Identifies Regions at High Risk of Flooding

Kazakh Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Yerlan Nyssanbayev has warned that warm temperatures and heavy precipitation expected in Kazakhstan during March and April will increase flood risks in several regions.

The Minister stressed that March and April this year will be warmer than average and wetter, and increase the likelihood of flood risks, The Caspian Post reports citing Kaziform.

He said Aktobe, Kostanay, Karaganda, Akmola, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Ulytau and Abai regions are at most risk of seasonal flooding.

Almaty, Zhetysu, Zhambyl, West Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions are at average flood risk, while Pavlodar, Mangistau, Turkistan and Kyzylorda regions are at low risk.

As earlier reported, 29 villages were under the threat of flooding in Kyzylorda region in February.
