Kazakhstan Inflation Trends Show Gradual Slowdown

Kazakhstan’s annual inflation continued its downward trend in April, falling to 10.6 percent compared to 11 percent in March, according to data released on Monday by the country’s Bureau of National Statistics.

The decline follows a previous monthly reduction of 0.7 percentage points recorded in March compared to the preceding month, indicating a gradual easing of inflationary pressure in the economy, The Caspian Post reports, citing Xinhua.

Officials noted that the slowdown was primarily driven by reduced price growth in several key sectors. Food and non-alcoholic beverages remained the largest contributor to annual inflation at 4.5 percent. This was followed by transport, which contributed 1.1 percent, and personal care, social protection, and other goods and services, which accounted for 1 percent.

Despite the annual slowdown, monthly inflation increased in April. It rose to 0.8 percent, up from 0.6 percent in March, the statistical report said.

On an annual basis, price increases remained significant across major categories. Food products rose by 11.3 percent, non-food goods increased by 11.7 percent, and paid services went up by 8.9 percent, according to the data.

The figures suggest that while inflation is easing overall on a yearly basis, price pressures persist across essential consumer categories, particularly in goods and food-related segments.
