Kazakhstan has expressed readiness to host direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, but Kazakh President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, emphasized that the country does not view itself as a mediator in the ongoing conflict.
President Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan believes both Russia and Ukraine are capable of engaging in bilateral dialogue at various levels to address their disputes, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.
He also noted the complexity of the “Ukrainian crisis” and cautioned against oversimplifying the situation.
President Tokayev said that if the leaders of the two countries wish to hold talks in Kazakhstan, the nation would provide all necessary support to facilitate successful negotiations.
He concluded by affirming Kazakhstan’s support for the initiation of direct high-level talks but stressed that “preliminary work is needed to build mutual understanding” before such discussions could begin.
