Kazakhstan Ratifies Allied Relations Treaty With Tajikistan

Kazakhstan’s lower house of parliament, the Majilis of Kazakhstan, has ratified the Treaty on Allied Relations with Tajikistan, marking a new step toward deeper strategic cooperation between the two Central Asian states.

The document was originally signed on August 22, 2024, in Dushanbe and aims to give fresh momentum to the comprehensive partnership between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

Under the agreement, the two countries commit to expanding cooperation across a wide range of areas, including politics, trade, defense, science and technology, culture, and humanitarian ties. The treaty also outlines mechanisms to improve coordination and strengthen institutional cooperation.

According to Article 2, both sides pledge to refrain from any actions that could undermine their strategic partnership and allied relations. Article 4 highlights the importance of stronger parliamentary cooperation, including more active engagement between inter-parliamentary friendship groups and joint work within international parliamentary organizations.

The agreement also emphasizes the role of consultative meetings among Central Asian leaders as a key platform for addressing regional challenges and promoting collective solutions.

Economic cooperation remains a central pillar of the treaty. Both countries aim to create more favorable conditions for business, expand trade and investment, and encourage direct partnerships between companies, institutions, and citizens.

Another key element of the pact is enhanced cooperation on the sustainable and mutually beneficial use of water resources - a critical issue for long-term development and environmental stability across Central Asia.
