Kazakhstan's Astana Set for Eurasian Economic Council Meeting

Kazakhstan will host the next Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting in Astana on May 28-29, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced at the SEEC session in Saint Petersburg.

Addressing the gathering, Tokayev said that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states face complex challenges that demand well-balanced decisions and close coordination, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

He reminded participants that Kazakhstan will assume the chairmanship of EAEU structures next year and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to joint efforts aimed at delivering new achievements and improving the well-being of the union’s peoples.

The Kazakh leader thanked Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko for a successful chairmanship during the outgoing year. The meeting concluded with the adoption of several documents.

The summit brought together Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, along with representatives from Indonesia, Iran, and Cuba.

Earlier in his remarks, Tokayev noted that the EAEU’s combined GDP could grow by 2 per cent in 2025 and proposed integrating artificial intelligence into the bloc’s core activities. He also emphasized the EAEU’s potential to become a global transport and logistics hub, calling for the removal of remaining barriers to mutual trade.

President Tokayev arrived in Saint Petersburg to take part in the SEEC meeting and an informal gathering of CIS heads of state.
