The 14th edition of the national Qazaq kuresi wrestling tournament, Qazaqstan Barysy 2025, has officially began at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Arts Palace in Astana, ahead of the country’s upcoming Republic Day.
A total of 43 wrestlers from across Kazakhstan are competing in weight categories ranging from 91 to 167 kg, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.
Among the contenders are Yerasyl Kazhybayev, the 2024 champion, and two top athletes from the Asker Barysy military wrestling competition, all vying for the prestigious title.
The Qazaqstan Barysy 2025 winner will receive an honorary title, a golden belt, and a golden taytuyak, a trophy symbolizing national pride. The tournament’s total prize fund stands at 27 million tenge, with 100,000 tenge awarded to each match winner. Coaches of winners and medalists will also receive monetary rewards.
In related sports news, Kazakhstan is set to host the Women’s Asian Ice Hockey Championship, further showcasing the country’s expanding role in international sports.
