Kazakhstan is set to harvest 24 million tons of grain this year, enough to satisfy the country’s demand for food grain, feed, and seeds.
Kazakh Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov announced at a government meeting that harvesting efforts are nearly complete in southern regions, with 23.6 million hectares cultivated overall, including 16 million hectares for grain and legume crops, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The harvest is progressing ahead of last year’s pace.
To date, 10.2 million hectares have been harvested, producing 15.5 million tons of grain at an average yield of 15.2 centners per hectare.
Highlighting export potential, Saparov said the government will support expanding Kazakhstan’s grain exports by providing subsidies to cover transportation costs to seaports, aiming to open new markets.
Earlier reports indicated that 12.7 million tons of grain had been harvested as of September 18.
