Kyrgyzstan’s unusually high temperatures during the summer of 2025 have caused a significant decline in grain production.
By August 23, the country had harvested over 900,000 tons of grain-almost 23 per cent less than the same period in 2024-even though the harvested area expanded by 6 per cent to 429,000 hectares, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
The most pronounced reductions were recorded in the Chui and Talas regions, where average wheat yields plummeted by 31.6 per cent, and barley yields dropped by 31.5 per cent.
Despite the heat, several crops showed notable growth, including:
Oilseeds, which increased by 47.4 per cent
Fruits and berries, up 22.2 per cent
Melons, rising 17.2 per cent
Vegetables, growing 11.2 per cent
Potatoes, with a modest increase of 3.6 per cent
