Kazakhstan Sees Drop in Synthetic Drug Production

Daniyar Meirkhan, head of the Committee on Combating Drug Crime at the Kazakh Interior Ministry, has announced that synthetic drug production in Kazakhstan declined.

Meirkhan attributed the drop to tougher criminal penalties for drug organizers, including life imprisonment, which have pushed production out of Kazakhstan into neighboring countries, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

“As a result, the price of synthetic drugs has increased from 25,000 to 35,000 tenge (48.88-68.44), and transport disruptions are frequent. These are direct effects of strikes on production, logistics, and distribution channels,” he said.

He also noted that since March 2025, administrative penalties for non-medical drug use have been introduced, leading to over 6,000 violators being prosecuted.
