Kazakhstan Spends Over $300M on Water Supply Upgrades

Kazakh Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, has reported to the government on the distribution of 101 billion tenge ($335 million) allocated for improving the country’s water supply infrastructure.

In 2025, the ministry implemented 30 projects for the construction and reconstruction of water facilities across nine regions, fully utilizing funds from the Special State Fund, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The minister noted that 15 projects were completed-exceeding the planned nine-resulting in the construction of 1,599 km of water supply networks and 8 new water facilities. These upgrades improved access to centralized water supply for 277 settlements, serving 514,000 people, including 73 settlements receiving water for the first time.

Nurzhigitov highlighted the rapid progress compared to previous years: from 2021-2023, only 6 projects were completed, while the last two years saw 22 projects finished, benefiting 326 settlements and 722,000 residents. The minister emphasized that these efforts have significantly strengthened Kazakhstan’s water infrastructure and access for rural communities.
