Kazakhstan, Tajikistan Boost Transport Partnership as Freight Traffic Surges

Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are stepping up transport cooperation as trade and transit flows across Central Asia continue to grow.

During the 18th meeting of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission, Tajikistan’s Transport Minister Azim Ibrohim held talks with Kazakhstan’s counterpart Nurlan Sauranbayev on expanding bilateral connectivity and boosting regional logistics links, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

Tajikistan described Kazakhstan as one of its most important transport partners in Central Asia, highlighting rising freight volumes and stronger transit cooperation between the two countries.

Road freight traffic between Kazakhstan and Tajikistan increased by 5.8% in the first four months of 2026, while the number of freight vehicles crossing between the countries jumped 17.9% compared to the same period last year.

Rail transport also posted strong growth. In 2025, total rail freight transported through Kazakhstan surpassed 5.6 million tons - an increase of more than 621,000 tons year-on-year.

The two sides focused on expanding international transport corridors, simplifying transit procedures, accelerating freight digitalization and increasing infrastructure capacity as Central Asia strengthens its role in Eurasian trade routes.
