On World Bread Day - observed annually on October 16 - Kazakhstan reiterated its status as a bread‑self‑sufficient nation and a pivotal player in the global grain market.
Thanks to its rich baking traditions and robust agro-industrial framework, Kazakhstan not only meets all of its domestic bread needs but also supports significant grain exports abroad, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Production Numbers Signal Strength
In 2024, Kazakhstan produced 510,100 tons of bread
In the first eight months of 2025, 326,300 tons were already produced
The country’s bakeries have the capacity to handle up to 457,400 tons annually
Wheat pan bread remains the lead product, making up about 60 per cent of total bread output
To adapt to consumer trends, bakeries are expanding into a broader variety of breads, bakery goods, flour, and confectionery products, with both short and long shelf life options
Government Incentives Fuel Sector Growth
Under the 2021-2030 Agro‑Industrial Development Concept, the government extends strong support to agro-processing enterprises. Notably:
25 per cent reimbursement of investment costs is available for bakery and confectionery facilities that expand capacity by at least 2,000 tons/year
Flour producers benefit from a 70 per cent reduction in VAT under Article 411 of the Tax Code, easing cost pressures throughout the supply chain
A Resilient Farm‑to‑Fork Ecosystem
The ministry emphasized that Kazakhstan’s entire bread production chain-from farmers and mills to bakeries and logistics-is functioning reliably, guaranteeing a daily supply of quality, affordable bread for citizens. The country’s self-sufficiency stands on the dedication of farmers, millers, bakers, and transport workers.
Additionally, recent data show that Kazakhstan harvested 25.9 million tons of grain, further solidifying its reputation as a leading grain producer.
