Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan have taken a major step toward strengthening regional ties after signing a landmark treaty aimed at expanding cooperation and promoting long-term stability across Central Asia.
During an official visit to Ashgabat on July 1, Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister, Yermek Kosherbayev, met with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and delivered greetings from Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.
The talks focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the two neighboring countries, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to cooperation based on mutual respect, good-neighborliness, and shared regional interests.
Kosherbayev also updated the Turkmen leader on the implementation of agreements previously reached by the two presidents, highlighting continued progress in bilateral relations.
A key outcome of the visit was the signing of the Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighborliness and Cooperation for the Development of Central Asia in the 21st Century. The agreement is expected to usher in a new phase of regional cooperation, supporting sustainable development while reinforcing peace and stability across Central Asia.
The two countries also pledged to deepen collaboration through multilateral platforms and coordinate efforts on regional priorities.
The treaty follows another important diplomatic milestone, as the foreign ministries of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan recently signed a two-year Cooperation Program designed to expand bilateral engagement across multiple sectors.
