During his official visit to Japan, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has witnessed the signing of a memorandum of mutual understanding between the Kazakh Foreign Ministry and the United Nations University (UNU) in Tokyo.
The agreement, signed by Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev and UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala, aims to strengthen educational and research cooperation, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Earlier, President Tokayev proposed establishing a regional UNU branch in Almaty. His visit has also included high-level meetings with Emperor Naruhito, Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, discussions on digitalization, Smart City technologies, AI, and sustainable urban development, as well as a lecture at UNU titled “Restoring Strategic Trust in an Era of Turbulence.”
In the presence of the Kazakh leader, Astana Mayor Zhenis Kassymbek and Governor Koike also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the capitals of Kazakhstan and Japan, marking a milestone in bilateral cooperation.
