New High-Tech Veterinary Lab Boosts Kazakhstan-China Agricultural Ties

Kazakhstan and China have strengthened their agricultural partnership with the opening of a cutting-edge veterinary laboratory in East Kazakhstan.

The laboratory is designed to enhance food safety and strengthen the country’s agricultural export potential, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

The project is part of an intergovernmental agreement between Kazakhstan and China, established following President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s official visit to China.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Kazakh Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov, East Kazakhstan Governor Nurymbet Saktaganov, and Chinese Ambassador Han Chunlin.

Saparov highlighted the lab as a symbol of Kazakhstan-China strategic cooperation in science and technology, underlining its vital role in improving the quality and safety of Kazakh agricultural products and boosting competitiveness in global markets.

As part of the agreement, the Chinese government donated 99 state-of-the-art laboratory equipment units and furnishings valued at approximately 840 million tenge. The facility is accredited under both Chinese and international ISO 17025 standards, enabling it to conduct highly precise veterinary diagnostics, food safety testing, and quality control.

This accreditation is expected to help Kazakhstan overcome technical barriers and expand its agricultural exports, particularly to China and other international partners.

The laboratory operates under the Republican Veterinary Laboratory branch of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Committee for Veterinary Control and Supervision. It is capable of performing up to 550,000 tests annually for highly dangerous infections, along with about 4,000 food safety analyses.

Additionally, a handover ceremony took place, providing 22 specialized machines and service vehicles to regional branches of the Republican Veterinary Laboratory and veterinary stations throughout East Kazakhstan.

This milestone follows the recent establishment of the China-Uzbekistan International Food Laboratory, emphasizing growing regional collaboration in food safety and agricultural innovation.
