The Government of Kazakhstan has allocated 1.4 billion tenge ($2.635 million) from its reserve fund to reconstruct the dam in Teplichnoye village, Kyzylzhar district, North Kazakhstan region.
The decree was signed by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The project aims to enhance the dam’s efficiency and protect the rural settlement of about 1,000 residents from potential flooding. Planned work include road renovation, installation of reinforced-concrete slabs, a new drainage system, and landscaping around the site.
Built in 1980, the Teplichnoye dam originally measured 380 meters long, 11 meters wide, and 4 meters high. Its full-scale reconstruction is part of a broader national effort to strengthen hydraulic infrastructure.
Across the country, 57 water management and reconstruction projects are underway in Akmola, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Pavlodar, and North Kazakhstan regions. So far, 40 facilities have been commissioned, and 91 per cent of protective dikes (221 km) have been reinforced.
Earlier, the government also allocated 250 million tenge ($470,538) for emergency repairs to heating networks in Arkalyk, Kostanay region, under another decree signed by Bektenov.
