Over 100 Dead Seals Found on Caspian Coast in Kazakhstan

117 seal carcasses have been found on the coast of the Caspian Sea near the city of Fort Shevchenko in the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan, The Caspian Post reports citing the Fisheries Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic.

"During a raid, the Ural-Caspian Fisheries Inspectorate discovered 117 badly decomposed seal carcasses. The animals were found in the Asan, Mys Bautin, and Mys Urdyuk areas of the city of Fort-Shevchenko in the Tupkaragan district. Judging by the decomposition of the bodies, the seals found died in November-December last year," the report says.

It is noted that employees of the relevant authorities collected the carcasses of seals lying 5 km from the seashore and destroyed them at the landfill, observing sanitary standards.

The total number of dead seals found since November 2024 has reached 2,194, the fisheries committee noted.
