Over 100 Horses Die in Kazakhstan After Deadly Storms

More than 100 horses have reportedly died in western Kazakhstan after severe weather struck the Mangystau District, bringing heavy rain and powerful winds.

The biggest livestock losses were recorded near the village of Akshimrau and along the route between Say-Otes and the 7th railway siding, around 120-150 kilometers from the district center, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

The exact number is still being verified, as many owners have not yet counted all animals. Residents reported losing anywhere from several horses to as many as ten per household.

Storms on April 14-15 also damaged roofs on several buildings in Say-Otes. Some herds were swept away by floodwaters, while others became trapped in waterlogged land and salt marshes where they perished.

A special commission has been formed to assess the damage and consider compensation for livestock registered in the national agricultural animal database.

Emergency teams and equipment have been sent to the area, including a TREKOL all-terrain vehicle from Beyneu District, drones for aerial monitoring, and machinery from oil and gas companies. All available resources have been mobilized and the situation remains under close control.
