President Tokayev: Eternal Friendship - Guiding Star for Kazakhstan and Russia

Ahead of his two-day state visit to Moscow on November 11-12, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev published an article in Rossiyskaya Gazeta titled “Eternal Friendship Is a Guiding Star for Our Peoples,” highlighting the deep-rooted partnership between Kazakhstan and Russia.

In the article, Tokayev emphasized that the two nations share centuries of history, culture, and values, describing their relationship as an “exemplary model of interstate cooperation”, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

He noted that since Kazakhstan’s independence, relations with Russia have remained a top foreign policy priority, symbolized by the 1992 Treaty of Eternal Friendship.

Tokayev praised the maturity and stability of bilateral ties, underscoring that the strategic partnership and alliance between the two countries are key to Eurasian security. He credited President Vladimir Putin’s efforts for helping sustain close cooperation even amid global challenges.

During his visit, Tokayev and Putin are expected to sign a Declaration on the Transition of Relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Alliance, marking a new era in bilateral ties.

The Kazakh leader highlighted impressive results of economic cooperation, including trade turnover nearing $30 billion, over 170 joint industrial projects worth more than $50 billion, and 20,000 Russian-backed companies operating in Kazakhstan.

He also spotlighted joint ventures in energy, transport, and high technology, such as the construction of Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant with Rosatom, and the modernization of cross-border transport corridors, including Western Europe-Western China and the North-South railway route.

Cultural and educational collaboration remains equally strong, with nine Russian university branches in Kazakhstan, and Kazakh institutions opening campuses in Russia - a first in history. Tokayev reaffirmed support for the Russian language as a bridge of trust and understanding between nations.

Concluding his article, Tokayev wrote that Kazakhstan-Russia relations remain a pillar of stability for the entire Eurasian continent, grounded in shared history, mutual respect, and a common vision for the future.

“Eternal friendship is not just a figure of speech,” he wrote. “It reflects the spirit and unity of our peoples - a guiding star that will continue to lead us forward.”
