Russia's Tretyakov Gallery Showcases Masterpieces of Kazakh Art

The State Tretyakov Gallery has opened the exhibition Masterpieces of Kazakh Art as part of the Days of Culture of Kazakhstan in Russia.

A Kazakh delegation led by Minister of Culture and Information Aida Balayeva took part in the official opening ceremony, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

“The Days of Culture of Kazakhstan in Russia represent a significant step in strengthening cooperation between our countries and demonstrate the success of our continued diplomatic dialogue. This major cultural initiative brings together leading venues across Moscow, showcasing the diversity and richness of modern Kazakh culture - from theatre and music to cinema and visual arts. Today’s exhibition is especially meaningful, as it marks the first display of Kazakh artworks in Moscow in 34 years. The last exhibition from the Kasteyev State Museum was held here in August 1991. Therefore, we consider this event an important milestone and a new step in deepening cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Russia,” Balayeva said during the opening.

Organized by the Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Art of Kazakhstan, the exhibition presents more than 60 paintings and sculptures by prominent 20th-century Kazakh artists. Among the featured sculptors are Tulegen Dosmagambetov, Yerkin Mergenov, Olga Prokopyeva, and Yesken Sergebayev, whose works embody the key themes and artistic aspirations of their era. The exhibition will remain open to visitors until November 23.

The cultural program also includes the Days of Kazakh Cinema, which opened in Moscow alongside the exhibition. From October 10 to 13, the Poklonka Cinema is screening a lineup of acclaimed Kazakh films, including Time of Patriots, Stop, Night!, Dos-Mukassan, Summer 1941, 90+1, and the animated film Altyn Adam, which has earned recognition both at home and internationally.

On October 13, the Maly Theatre will host a performance of Parasat Maidany, a psychological drama exploring the moral and spiritual challenges of contemporary life. The play, based on the works of renowned Kazakh author Tolon Abdykov, will be performed by the Kalibek Kuanyshbayev State Academic Kazakh Music and Drama Theatre.

The Days of Culture of Kazakhstan in Russia will conclude in November with a large-scale gala concert featuring leading Kazakh performers.

Earlier, the fourth meeting of the Subcommittee on Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia was held in Moscow, underscoring the continued expansion of bilateral ties in the cultural and creative sectors.
