Russian Leader Arrives in Kazakhstan for High-Profile State Visit and Eurasian Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Astana on a state visit at the invitation of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

President Tokayev personally welcomed Putin at Astana International Airport, where an official reception ceremony was held in honor of the Russian leader’s arrival, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

The visit began with a display of military and ceremonial honors. A Guard of Honor was lined up at the airport, while Kazakhstan Air Defense fighter jets escorted the Russian presidential aircraft after it crossed the country’s state border.

Putin arrived in Kazakhstan with a large delegation of more than 30 officials, including ministers and heads of major Russian companies, underscoring the significance of the visit and upcoming talks.

Guests were greeted with performances of Kazakh and Russian folk songs, while helicopters carrying the national flags of Kazakhstan and Russia flew above the runway during the welcoming ceremony.

During the talks, Tokayev and Putin are expected to discuss the current state and future prospects of the comprehensive strategic partnership and allied relations between Kazakhstan and Russia.

Astana is also set to host key regional events in the coming days. On May 28, leaders of the Eurasian Economic Union member states will gather for the Eurasian Economic Forum, followed by a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council on May 29.
