The Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations has stated that a strong earthquake struck the Zhambyl region in southern Kazakhstan on July 8, with tremors felt in 12 settlements.
The seismic event was recorded at 2:30 p.m. (GMT+5), with its epicenter located at latitude 42.954° N and longitude 72.807° E, approximately 334 kilometers southwest of Almaty. The earthquake occurred within Kazakhstan’s territory, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.
The intensity of the tremors varied across the affected locations:
Kulan - 6 points
Merke - 5 points
Shu - 3 points
Sarykemer, Tole Bi, and Taraz - 3 points each
Asa, Moyinkum, Kordai, Bauyrzhan Momyshuly, Karatau, and Turar Ryskulov - 2 points each
According to the ministry, no injuries or property damage have been reported.
