Tajikistan Eyes Record Wheat Supplies from Kazakhstan

Tajikistan is planning a major boost to its food imports, targeting 1.3 million tons of wheat from Kazakhstan in 2026 as part of efforts to strengthen national food security.

The announcement came from Nurmahmad Akhmadzoda, head of Tajikistan’s Agency for State Material Reserves, during talks in Astana with representatives of Food Contract Corporation, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

“Food security is always a top priority for any country,” Akhmadzoda said, emphasizing that Tajikistan is interested not only in grain supplies but also in flour and sunflower oil imports from Kazakhstan.

The growing cooperation builds on strong momentum: in 2025, Kazakh wheat exports to Tajikistan hit a five-year high, reaching 1.2 million tons. The new target signals even deeper agricultural and trade ties between the two Central Asian neighbors.

As regional demand rises, Kazakhstan continues to solidify its role as a key grain supplier, while Tajikistan looks to ensure stable access to essential food products.
