Kazakhstan has outlined the rights and government support available to refugees.
Refugee status is granted to foreigners who have fled their home countries due to the threat of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, citizenship, social group, or political beliefs. It does not apply to those leaving for economic reasons, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Refugees in Kazakhstan are entitled to:
Work or run a business without special permits
Receive free medical care
Enroll their children in kindergartens and schools for free
Access targeted social assistance
To apply, individuals must submit their application within five days of entering Kazakhstan. Applicants can legally stay in the country while their case is being reviewed.
Refugees can later apply for permanent residency and citizenship without a criminal record certificate, and the law prohibits returning them to countries where they face danger.
