Kazakhstan has approved new locations for casino zones, marking a major shift in its gambling policy as part of broader tourism reforms.
Under amendments signed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, new gambling areas will be established across four regions, primarily targeting foreign visitors, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
The newly designated zones include:
Mangistau Region along the Caspian Sea coast
Zhetysu Region, including the Panfilov district and Lake Alakol area
Almaty Region, specifically the Talgar district
East Kazakhstan Region, including the Markakol area and Zaisan district
The updated law prohibits casinos, slot machine halls, and betting shops from operating in protected natural areas, as well as on land of historical, cultural, defense, or national security importance.
Access to these gambling zones will be restricted to foreign citizens, stateless persons, and authorized personnel, signaling a shift toward a tourism-focused model.
Currently, casino activity in Kazakhstan is limited to two locations-Konaev in the Almaty region and the Shchuchinsk-Borovoye resort area in the Akmola region-both open to domestic and international visitors. The new rules are expected to reshape the country’s gaming industry and boost regional tourism.
