Asian Development Bank’s Country Director for Kyrgyzstan Zheng Wu has said that ADB announced plans to deepen its cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, with continued emphasis on infrastructure development, agriculture, and sustainable economic growth.
Over the past three decades, Kyrgyzstan has received more than $3 billion in funding from the ADB, supporting a broad portfolio of projects that continues to expand, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.
Looking ahead, Zheng Wu identified energy, green economy initiatives, and private sector development as key priority areas.
“Since 1994, ADB has been a vital development partner for Kyrgyzstan, providing over $3 billion to support infrastructure and various other sectors. Our commitment to collaboration remains steadfast,” Zheng Wu stated.
The bank plans to maintain close cooperation with Kyrgyzstan’s government and local communities, focusing on climate change adaptation, regional integration, and boosting private sector growth. ADB-backed projects are implemented throughout the country to ensure inclusive development.
Highlighting Kyrgyzstan’s recent economic progress, Zheng Wu noted, “In the last three to four years, Kyrgyzstan’s GDP has doubled, which is a strong indicator of economic growth. Typically, development partners like the World Bank and ADB reduce grant funding as GDP rises. However, we continue to mobilize resources to offer concessional loans for projects aimed at improving the quality of life for rural populations.”
