Envoy: Organization of Turkic States Needs Stronger Dialogue

Kyrgyz Ambassador to Azerbaijan Maksat Mamykanov has said that strengthening cooperation and exchanging best practices is crucial for ensuring safe and sustainable digital integration among member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).

Mamykanov made these remarks at the seventh meeting of OTS ministers and senior officials responsible for media and information, The Caspian Post informs via local media.

Speaking at the event, the ambassador highlighted that a unified information space among Turkic nations is forming naturally - driven by shared history, cultural values, and close ties between peoples.

However, he noted that the rapid development of digital technologies, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the spread of content on global digital and social platforms have created common challenges. These include disinformation, manipulation, cyber threats, and the uncontrolled dissemination of false or radical content.

For multilingual and multicultural countries, these risks are especially pressing, the diplomat said.

He emphasized that expanding knowledge-sharing among OTS members and adopting global best practices in media regulation and information security are essential for building a safe digital environment.

Mamykanov also noted that Kyrgyzstan recently adopted a new law to modernize its media system and regulate mass communications. The legislation aims to increase transparency, protect citizens’ interests, support industry growth, and adapt the sector to digital realities.

He added that strengthening dialogue within the OTS - particularly on digital journalism standards, AI content regulation, and combating disinformation - should remain a top priority.
