Azerbaijan has deployed a team of 25 election observers to Kyrgyzstan ahead of the country’s early parliamentary elections, scheduled for November 30.
The announcement was made during a meeting between Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov and his Kyrgyz counterpart Tynchtyk Shainazarov, The Caspian Post reports via the Kyrgyz CEC.
Panahov noted that Azerbaijani observers will join missions organized by the CIS, the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the Organization of Turkic States, TURKPA, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, PACE, as well as bilateral missions and representatives of the Azerbaijani Embassy.
The sides discussed Kyrgyzstan’s preparations for the elections, which for the first time will be held under a new electoral system and include remote voting options. This year, 30 multi-mandate constituencies have been formed, and 100 polling stations have been opened abroad to ensure citizens’ voting rights. An additional 27 remote voting stations have also been set up at airports, shopping centers, markets, hospitals, and other public locations.
Panahov expressed hope for further cooperation between the election commissions of the two countries and wished Kyrgyzstan successful elections.
