Kyrgyzstan is facing a sharp surge in imported fuel prices as escalating tensions in the Middle East continue to impact global energy markets.
Presidential administration spokesperson Daiyrbek Orunbekov said that Kyrgyzstan is now purchasing AI-92 gasoline from Russia at around $950 per ton following the outbreak of hostilities involving Iran, the US and Israel, The Caspian Post reports via Vesti.kg.
Before the regional conflict intensified, the same fuel reportedly cost about $650 per ton, marking a jump of $300, or more than 46%.
Diesel prices have climbed even more dramatically. Orunbekov said Kyrgyzstan is currently importing diesel fuel from Russia for more than $1,200 per ton, compared to roughly $700 previously - an increase exceeding 71%.
He noted that neighboring Kazakhstan has managed to keep domestic fuel prices lower due to its own oil reserves and government subsidies.
At the same time, Kyrgyzstan is continuing modernization work at the Kyrgyzneftegaz and Junda plants. Once upgrades are completed, the facilities are expected to produce fuel meeting European environmental standards.
