The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has announced that Japan provided Kyrgyzstan with 6.845 billion yen (about $44 million) in grant aid.
The agreements were signed by Japan’s Ambassador Hirano Ryuichi and Kyrgyz Finance Minister Almaz Baketayev, while JICA Resident Representative Nishigata Kotaro and Baketayev formalized grant contracts supporting major projects across energy, transport, healthcare, and human capital development, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Nearly $10 million will strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s electric grid training center, improve technical skills, and introduce energy-saving technologies. About $20 million will fund reconstruction of the Naryn River bridge on the Bishkek-Osh highway, improving connectivity with the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Around $12 million will modernize medical equipment in southern referral hospitals, including the Osh Interregional United Clinical Hospital and the Osh Oncology Center. Additionally, $2 million will support the Economic and Social Development Program, equipping the Kyrgyz-Japan Human Development Center with modern ICT tools for education and research.
JICA emphasized that these grants reflect the strong partnership between Japan and Kyrgyzstan, highlighting a shared commitment to sustainable development and strengthening key sectors of the Kyrgyz economy. Previously, the two countries also partnered to launch a joint digital university.
