Kyrgyz Election Turnout Reaches 37%, CEC Reports

Voter turnout in Kyrgyzstan’s early parliamentary elections on November 30 surpassed 1,584,000 people, or about 37 per cent of eligible voters.

Central Election Commission member Abdyjapar Bekmatov said preliminary data shows strong participation in several regions, where turnout reached 47-48 per cent, while districts around Bishkek recorded lower activity at around 24-25 per cent. Updated figures will be released as precinct protocols are finalized, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

The snap elections were held to elect 90 members of the Jogorku Kenesh across 30 multi-member constituencies, each choosing three MPs. More than 4.29 million citizens were registered to vote.

Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Central Election Commission commended the well-organized and transparent voting process in Kyrgyzstan.
