President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov met today with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as part of a working visit to Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, the issues of progressive development of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union were discussed, including expansion of trade and economic ties, attracting investments and implementing initiatives in the field of sustainable development, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.
Sadyr Zhaparov emphasized that the format of interaction between the Central Asian countries and the European Union is developing dynamically and is already yielding practical results.
"In the period from 2021 to 2024, the trade turnover of the Kyrgyz Republic with the countries of the European Union increased by 2.4 times, while imports grew by 2.6 times, and exports - by 1.5 times.
This became possible, including due to the successful implementation of the General System of Preferences, for which we express our gratitude to our European partners," the head of state noted.
He also indicated that one of the key areas of cooperation is the development of new transport links aimed at strengthening the real independence of Kyrgyzstan.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen noted that strengthening regional security is an integral condition for economic prosperity and sustainable development.
"The signing of the agreement on the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is a historic achievement that opens up great opportunities for the region. It not only strengthens trust between countries, but also creates a powerful impetus for trade growth, investment attraction and implementation of large infrastructure projects,” she noted.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their commitment to expanding trade and economic partnership, developing transport infrastructure and strengthening regional stability.
