Kyrgyzstan, FAO Mull Realizing Environmental Projects

Minister of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan Boobek Azhikeyev received representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UN FAO) in the Kyrgyz Republic Oleg Guchgeldiev.

According to the ministry, the meeting discussed the implementation of key projects, such as “Support in Digitalization of Damage and Loss Assessment in Agriculture in the Kyrgyz Republic” and the Green Climate Fund project “Carbon Sequestration through Climate Investments in Forests and Rangelands in Kyrgyzstan (CS-FOR)”, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

In his welcoming speech, Minister Azhikeyev expressed gratitude for the contribution to the development of cooperation and for the successful promotion of ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening national capacities in the field of emergency management.

“Both projects play an important role in strengthening environmental sustainability and enhancing emergency response preparedness,” the minister said.

The meeting also discussed issues in the field of environment, climate change and addressing the environmental concerns of the people by attracting green investments.

In particular, the role of FAO as one of the key international organizations assisting Kyrgyzstan's development was noted.

In turn, FAO representative in Kyrgyzstan Oleg Guchgeldiev expressed readiness in further expansion of partnership between the Ministry of Emergency Situations and FAO, as well as in the implementation of tasks to achieve joint goals.

“Following the meeting, the parties expressed hope for further continuation of fruitful bilateral cooperation,” the report said.
