Kyrgyzstan has ranked 109th in the updated Global Firepower Military Strength Ranking, which evaluates the defense capabilities of 145 countries worldwide.
The country slipped four positions compared to 2025, when it held 105th place. The Global Firepower index is based on more than 60 indicators, including troop strength, defense spending, military equipment, and logistical capacity, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
According to the Global Firepower 2026 data, Kyrgyzstan’s defense budget stands at $654 million. The total number of military personnel is estimated at 78,000, including 23,000 active-duty troops and 55,000 personnel in paramilitary formations.
In terms of hardware, Kyrgyzstan’s Armed Forces operate seven helicopters, two of which are attack helicopters. The country also has 215 tanks, 30 self-propelled artillery systems, 174 towed artillery units, and 21 multiple launch rocket systems, among other assets.
Within Central Asia, Uzbekistan holds the strongest position at 53rd place, followed by Kazakhstan at 58th, Turkmenistan at 78th, and Tajikistan at 100th.
Globally, the United States remains the world’s strongest military power, followed by Russia in second place and China in third. The bottom of the ranking is occupied by the Central African Republic, Belize, and Bhutan.
The updated ranking highlights Kyrgyzstan’s relatively limited military capacity compared to regional peers, while underscoring broader disparities in defense capabilities across Central Asia and the global system.
