For the first time in the history of Kyrgyzstan-Russia cooperation, archaeologists from the Greater Altai Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies will undertake excavations in Kyrgyzstan from October 17 to 25.
The expedition will center on a burial mound complex in the Kemin district of the Chui region, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
The team includes renowned archaeologists Alexey Tishkin, Vadim Gorbunov, Sergey Bondarenko, Temirlan Chargynov, and Orozbek Soltobaev, joined by undergraduate and graduate students from Zhusup Balasagyn National University of Kyrgyzstan. Utilizing advanced digital technology, the group aims to meticulously document discoveries and reconstruct historical artifacts.
The primary focus of the project is to study the culture of ancient nomadic peoples and analyze funerary monuments dating back to the Turkic era.
“Staff from Altai State University are participating in archaeological excavations in Kyrgyzstan for the first time. We hope our expertise will be valuable and that luck will favor our work,” said expedition leader Alexey Tishkin.
This groundbreaking project is a collaborative effort between the Greater Altai Research and Educational Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies at Altai State University and Zhusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz National University.
The expedition not only marks a milestone in the scientific partnership between Kyrgyzstan and Russia but also aims to enhance the understanding of Central Asia’s rich historical heritage.
