Kyrgyzstan has filed a lawsuit with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) Court over Russia’s failure to comply with an agreement regulating the rights of labor migrants.
The announcement was made by Azamat Mukanov, head of the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund, during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on labor, healthcare, women’s affairs, and social policy, where lawmakers were discussing the draft law “On Medical Insurance of Citizens”, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
Mukanov noted that all five EAEU member states are bound by an agreement governing labor migration issues. However, he said the Russia has violated Articles 96 and 97 of the agreement by refusing to provide mandatory medical insurance to family members of labor migrants.
“Kyrgyzstan has filed a claim with the EAEU Court, the process is underway, and a decision is expected within two weeks,” Mukanov said. He added that the issue was also raised during the recent visit to Kyrgyzstan by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk.
