A Russian mountaineer remains stranded on Kyrgyzstan's Victory Peak for a seventh day after sustaining a leg fracture, surviving without food at an altitude of 7,000 meters as rescuers attempt to reach her.
The climber, 47-year-old Natalia Nagovitsina, was injured during her descent on August 12, The Caspian Post informs via Kyrgyz media.
Her climbing partner provided first aid and went for help at the base camp. A rescue attempt on August 13 was aborted due to adverse weather, though a sleeping bag was delivered to Nagovitsina.
On August 16, a rescue helicopter reached the site but was forced into a hard landing due to turbulence. A third evacuation attempt is scheduled for August 19, weather permitting.
Four years ago, Nagovitsina stayed with her paralyzed husband on Khan Tengri until his death, with rescuers only able to evacuate her.
