Flood Fears in Russia’s Belgorod Region After Ukrainian Strike on Reservoir Dam

Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of Russia’s Belgorod region, has said that the Belgorod Reservoir dam was damaged following a strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Gladkov stated on Telegram that a second strike could lead to the complete collapse of the dam, posing a serious risk of flooding that could submerge the homes of approximately 1,000 residents, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.

“If this happens, there will be a threat of flooding along the river basin from the Kharkiv region and several streets in our local settlements, where about 1,000 people live,” Gladkov wrote.

Authorities have initiated an evacuation of residents from areas under threat of flooding. Citizens have been asked to relocate to temporary accommodation centers as emergency services work to assess and contain the damage.
