The Kremlin has strongly denied accusations from several European nations that Russian military aircraft breached their airspace, labeling the allegations groundless and provocative.
In a statement, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov was responding to claims - including those from Estonia - that three Russian MiG‑31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.
“We consider such statements to be empty, unfounded, and part of a reckless campaign to fuel tension and provoke a confrontational atmosphere,” Peskov said.
He stressed that all Russian military flights are carried out in strict adherence to international laws and aviation norms.
“These accusations only contribute to rising tensions in the region,” he added.
The alleged violation reportedly occurred on September 19. In response to the incident, NATO has scheduled a meeting of its North Atlantic Council for September 23, at the request of Estonia, under Article 4 of the NATO Treaty. That provision mandates consultations among member states when any nation perceives a threat to its territorial integrity or security.
