Russian Missile and Drone Strikes Force Shutdown of Ukraine’s Poltava Gas Facilities

Russian forces have launched a targeted missile and drone attack against DTEK’s gas production facilities in Ukraine’s Poltava region, forcing an immediate halt to operations.

Russia once again struck DTEK Naftogaz’s energy infrastructure using drones and missiles,” DTEK stated, The Caspian Post informs via Ukrainian media.

The attack led to the shutdown of key gas production sites in Poltava, marking the latest in a series of strikes Russia has intensified since early autumn. The ongoing campaign targets Ukraine’s energy sector, with thermal power plants and other critical facilities among the main victims.

Russian forces also struck a Naftogaz thermal power plant, causing a significant fire. In response, emergency power outage schedules were introduced across multiple regions later that evening.

The sustained damage has resulted in power cuts in Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, and parts of Kirovohrad, Kyiv, and Cherkasy, as authorities grapple with an increasingly fragile electricity grid.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that disruptions to the electricity supply may continue as Russian attacks persist, urging for urgent electricity imports from the EU to help stabilize the power situation.
