Ukraine Receives 1,000 Fallen Servicemen in Major Repatriation Effort

As part of ongoing repatriation efforts, 1,000 bodies-reported by Russian authorities to be those of Ukrainian servicemen-have been returned to Ukraine.

In the coming days, law enforcement investigators and forensic experts from the Interior Ministry will conduct thorough examinations to identify the repatriated remains, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

The Ukrainian side handed over 24 bodies of Russian military personnel.

The operation was carried out through the coordinated efforts of multiple Ukrainian agencies, including the Coordinating Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, the Armed Forces, the Interior Ministry, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, the Secretariat for Missing Persons, the State Emergency Service, and other security and defense bodies.

The Coordinating Headquarters expressed gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross for its support and extended special thanks to the Armed Forces personnel who manage the transport, handover, and forensic processes.

This follows a previous repatriation on August 19, when other 1,000 fallen defenders were returned to Ukraine.
